My Scouting Biography...

My first experience with Scouting was when I was living in Norcross, GA. My next door neighbor was a Cub Scout and he taught me how to tie a square knot. It was not until the second grade in Trumbull, CT when I crossed Scouting's path again. My mother took me to a Pack meeting at my elementary school and I really enjoyed it. What I remember most about the meeting was a simple joke: "There was a little moron and a big moron. They were washing windows on a skyscraper. The big moron fell off. Why didn't the little moron fall off? Because he was a little more on." Soon after, I became a Cub Scout and was hooked on Scouting. That one experience changed my life forever.

I became a Cub Scout in Pack 261 chartered by Daniels Farm Elementary School. Several of my Cub Scouting memories include den meetings, going on trips, pinewood derby races, learning new things, and camping. It also provided a time to spend with friends. During my years in Cub Scouts, I earned many awards including the Arrow of Light and all 20 Webelos activity pins.

In September of 1991 I joined Troop 68 chartered by St. Theresa's Church and became a member of the Warrior Patrol. I became very interested in the Scouting program and quickly earned the Scout rank in the following month. I continued learning skills in camping, first aid, and citizenship and soon achieved the rank of Tenderfoot in April of 1992. In July of that year, I attended the Junior Leadership Training Conference held at Camp Pomperaug in Union, CT. That event marked my first visit to the camp that I would spend many of my Scouting weekends. I have several memories of my time at Camp Pomperaug that will last a lifetime. 1992 was also my first trip to summer camp at Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, RI. During that week, I was able to shoot a rifle, go canoeing, fishing, hiking, and also earn merit badges. I advanced to the Second Class rank during the week at Yawgoog. In September, I was selected to serve as the Assistant Patrol Leader for the Shark Patrol. I was also elected by my fellow troop members to be the Troop Historian. The calendar year ended with the achievement of the First Class rank in December. In May of1993, I earned the Star rank and was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow as a member of Tankiteke Lodge 313. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in my Scouting career (see Order of the Arrow Biography). In September of 1993, I was selected to serve as the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader of my troop. My advancement continued, and I earned the rank of Life Scout in May of 1994. In September of 1994, I was elected to serve as the Patrol Leader for the Eagle Patrol. In 1995, I was chosen to serve on the Council's Junior Leadership Training Course as a Troop Guide. I was also elected by the scouts in the troop to serve as the Senior Patrol Leader in September of that year and I served in that position for two terms. I was appointed to the position of Junior Assistant Scoutmaster in the fall of 1996 and served in that position until my 18th birthday. I was selected to serve on C.O.P.E. Staff for the Fairfield County Council. This gave me the opportunity of spending additional weekends at Camp Pomperaug in the "Enchanted Forest." In December of 1996, I finally completed all the requirements and became and Eagle Scout.

After earning my Eagle Scout badge, I still remained active in the troop program and attending campouts. I also earned my Bronze, Gold, and Silver Eagle Palms. I was also invited to join Explorer Scout unit 313. In 1997, I had the opportunity to attend the National Scout Jamboree at Fort AP Hill in VA. My serviceto the Council continued and I was once again selected to serve on the Junior Leadership Training Conference staff as the Senior Patrol Leader. When I turned 18 years old, I was no longer considered a youth in the BSA, but I continued to retain my membership as an Assistant Scoutmaster in my troop. I still attend troop functions when I am available, but most of my Scouting interests now lie in the Order of the Arrow.
